KAYAKERS

CARVING

(Dodd Island)

24” X 12”

About this painting

During the summer we took a kayaking tour around the Broken Group Island in the Pacific Rim National Park off of Vancouver Island.  Dodd Island was our pit stop for lunch.  Pulling  up on the shoreline you are greeted by the face of a small totem nestled under the trees.

The Broken Group Islands are covered with traces of native history and artifacts still hidden under heavy moss.   Although I don’t know the history of this particular carving, it captures the spirit of the area.  I can only assume another kayaker  whittled away some hours during his/her exploration of the

Broken Group Islands.
